LGD Take Down WE in LPL Playoffs R1

With the Tencent League of Legends Pro League (LPL) Summer Playoffs underway, after FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) were taken down by underdogs Victory 5 (V5) in round 1, LGD beat Team WE (Team World Elite) 3-1 today in a convincing victory that sees LGD Peanut and co continue their upward trajectory.

Game 1 & 2

Game 1 and 2 were in the firm control of LGD as they beat WE in team fights around the Drakes and Baron. Peanut won few smite wars vs Beishang and ensured LGD’s victory in the first and second game.

Game 3

The third game was more evenly contested with Team WE with an exceptional early game seemed to be clawing their way back in but a fight at the drake cost them few deaths which allowed LGD to bounce back, but it was in vain as WE picked up the Ocean Soul in exchange for LGD going for the Baron which resulted in a fight that wiped out LGD with only Lulu remaining to defend the base, it wasn’t enough to stave off WE’s players from destroying the nexus and hence taking this LPL Playoff Round 1 match between LGD Gaming and Team WE to a game 4.

Game 4

Game 4 of LGD vs Team WE started explosively with early kills picked up by Peanut’s Kindred at the river around the infernal drake which they eventually pick up. With a massive early game lead, LGD had the upper hand throughout the game picking up all the objectives from Rift Herald to Drakes to snowball the rest of the match. Especially after Team WE picked the same champions as game 3, Morgan who was expected to have the same performance as the previous game on Renekton, failed to make any real impact in game 4 after Renekton couldn’t force any early kills. WE who had scaling champions in the Azir and Ezreal hoped to buy enough time for the champions to become effective but due to constant pressure from LGD and a spectacular performance by LGD’s Xiye in all 4 games against Team WE, Team WE ran out of time and couldn’t win game 4 to force a game 5, hence losing to LGD on a 3-1 scoreline in favour of LGD.

Now Victory 5 (V5) and LGD move on to the next round to face Suning and Invictus Gaming respectively in the quarterfinals of LPL Summer Split Playoffs and will be fighting for a spot at the League of Legends World Championship 2020 that will be hosted in LPL’s home country of China.
